Summary results from the latest round of analysis
The key findings and headline results from the last round of statistical analysis are summarised below. The Network has again focused on Road Carriageway Maintenance and these results are based on CAPEX and OPEX data sourced direct (and in confidence) from 77 English Highway Authorities for the period from 2009/10 to 2017/18).
£106.5 million Total realised Efficiency Savings made in 2017/18 relative to 2013/14
Efforts have been made to separately identify additional investment - identified as an issue affecting 2016/17 results.
Changes were made to the 'Why' questionnaire this year to make it easier to report and analyse the data.
Improvement in the consistency of data has given scope for a more ambitious approach to capturing cost differences. Analysis this year is based on the combination of land area and road length, allowing for differentiation between urban and rural authorities.
Further work on the relationships between road condition (RDC), public satisfaction and cost. Three variables, newly introduced, have provided more intuitive results.
Individual participating councils were sent their own results in November 2018, no individual authority scores have been made public at this stage.
